Pinar del Rio is the province where there are the most important areas for the cultivation of tobacco. Geographically, it is located in the western part of the island of Cuba.  The name Pinar del Rio is protected by the Designation of Origin. The area of ​​Pinar del Rio includes: Vuelta Abajo and Semi Vuelta, which in turn include the districts of San Luis and San Juan y Matinez.

Vuelta Abajo is considered the best land in the world where growing tobacco. It is the main source of tobacco that is used to package a Habano. Moreover, it is the only area that produces all types of leaf: Capa , Tripa and Capote. All tobacco for the Tripa andCapote, for Habanos de Tripa Larga, originate from this area.

San Luis is a small town set amid the culture of Cuban tobacco. It is famous mainly for the cultivation of the leaves destined to Capa. As the district’s tobacco area of ​​Vuelta Abajo, enjoys the Designation of Origin own. Here you will find many famous plantations: El Corojo Vega and Cuchillas de Barbacoa. San Luis is one of the two districts from which it selects the leaves to pack Cohiba.

San Juan y Martinez another small town famous Vuelta Abajo, which is  Denomination of Origin too. Semi Vuelta is the other area located within the region of Pinar del Rio. It is basically known for the cultivation of the leaves for Capa and Tripa, intended for Habanos of Tripa Corta. The area devoted to the cultivation of tobacco is very small, in fact amounts to just 1 percent of the total lands that produce the Cuban tobacco. Its soil is very good for producing seeds that will later be implanted in the Vuelta Abajo.

Vediamo ora le zone dove viene coltivato il tabacco.

Pinar del Rio è la provincia dove si trovano le più importanti zone per la coltivazione del tabacco. Geograficamente, si trova nella parte occidentale dell’isola di Cuba. Ricordiamo che il nome Pinar del Rio è protetto dalla Denominazione di Origine. La zona di Pinar del Rio include: Semi Vuelta e Vuelta Abajo che a loro volta comprendono i distretti di San Juan y Matinez e San Luis.

Vuelta Abajo è considerata la migliore terra al mondo dove coltivare il tabacco. E’ la fonte principale di tabacco che viene utilizzato per confezionare un Habano. Inoltre, è l’unica zona che produce tutti i tipi di foglia: capa, tripa e capote. Tutto il tabacco per la tripa e il capote, per gli Habanos de Tripa Larga, provengono da questa zona.

San Luis è un piccolo centro posto in mezzo alla cultura del tabacco cubano. E’ famoso principalmente, per la coltivazione delle foglie destinate alla capa. Come distretto del tabacco della zona di Vuelta Abajo, gode della Denominazione di Origine propria.  Qui si trovano varie piantagioni famose: Vega el Corojo e la Cuchillas de Barbacoa. San Luis è uno dei due distretti dai quali si selezionano le foglie per confezionare i Cohiba.

San Juan y Martinez un altro piccolo centro famoso della Vuelta Abajo, che è a sua volta Denominazione di Origine. Gode di un’ottima reputazione per la coltivazione delle foglie che servono per la tripa e il capote. Qui è ubicata la famosa piantagione conosciuta con il nome Hoyo de Monterrey. San Juan y Martinez è l’altro distretto dal quale proviene il tabacco per confezionare i Cohiba.

Semi Vuelta è l’altra zona situata dentro la regione di Pinar del Rio. E’ conosciuta fondamentalmente per la coltivazione delle foglie  capote e tripa destinati  agli Habanos di Tripa Corta. La superficie dedicata alla coltivazione del tabacco è molto piccola, infatti ammonta appena all’ 1 per cento del totale delle terre che producono il tabacco cubano. Il suo suolo è ottimo anche per produrre i semi che in seguito verranno impiantati nella Vuelta Abajo.

Partido gruppo storico delle zone di produzione del tabacco. Si fondò nel secolo XVII a sud ovest de L’Avana. Anche questa regione è Denominazione di Origine ed è specializzata nella coltivazione delle foglie di capa per gli Habanos di Tripa Corta e Tripa Larga.

Remedios è la più antica regione produttrice di tabacco cubano. Anch’essa protetta dalla Denominazione di Origine. Da qui vengono le foglie per la produzione della marca Josè L. Piedra. Suolo e clima hanno caratteristiche distinte.

Vuelta Arriba. Nella parte orientale di questa regione sbarcò Colombo nel 1492 e scopri’ il tabacco cubano. Ancora oggi si coltiva il tabacco ma non per la produzione di Habanos.

L'Avana

 

L’Avana, capitale di Cuba, ha dato il suo nome al più famoso prodotto d’esportazione cubano. Dal porto della sua baia si imbarcavano gli Habanos destinati ai mercati esteri. E’ sede delle più famose fabbriche di sigari.
