“Guido Carloni -Artigas-„

Aficionados, I am glad to introduce you, Mr. Guido Carloni, owner of Artigas brand.

I met him in La Habana on October 2013. He is a very good person. Please enjoy the interview.

When did you start your adventure Artigas ?

In 2005, buying brands Artigas, Havana Gold and Lancelot to a company of  Mexico City. So along with our brand Santa Cruz , we started to manufacture our cigars and expanded considerably over the past four years the vitolario , seeking to groped quality tobacco  and  to raise the level and customize our cigars.

What brought you into the world of cigars ?

Chance ! At a trade show in Mexico City, an Italian importer of Americans cigars havatampa  ,  offerered to me to open the market in Cancún.

Skeptical, but I tried and it run. So we started the distribution of various imported brands and national , including the Café Creme Wintermann Dutch !

How many torcedores work in your factory?

We are  a small factory and a maximum in the high season we  have a dozen torcedores .

How many cigars are produced per day ?

It depends on the type of cigar , we produce premium  with capa clara habana , with capa Madura and our exclusive línea Vintage madura ( 120/150 cigars each Torcedor ) .
In Mexico we have a strong market for cigars and cigarillos picadura both natural and flavored with more ‘than 20 flavors ( 180/200 cigars or 800 cigarillos each torcedore ) .

What formats are more  sold ?

Of course formats most  famous and well known , such as Robustos , churchills , coronas , and Belicosos piramides !
But as I said cigarillos are super sell.

Our market in Mexico is predominantly tourism in particular the USA , Canada and Europe.

Your preferred format ?

My favorites are the vintage vitole Hemingway with his ring 55 x 135 mm . inches or 5 ” 5/16 and Robusto Black & White , smoked no more than 30 minutes!

What matches with a cigar ?

With a good wine or maybe when I find, one of our Marsala make me appreciate more  the smoke .

At what time of day you taste a cigar ?

Do not smoke every day, let’s say that over the weekend I have my moments of relaxation or when the opportunity presents itself , maybe in good company and at sunset in my balcony with a breathtaking view of the lagoon. Sometimes I have to smoke to test new vitolas or new alloys .

What are the characteristics your cigars ?

” Flavor of the cayenne pepper , mild scent of tea Tibet and leave the palate a taste of ron Virgin Islands !”

Ha ha ! Simply tobacco with its different flavors , depending on its origin and age … but only ever  Tobacco ! Having some Cuban rollers , we use their school and finish the head of the cigar with the ” Cuban perilla .”

According to the source and type of tobacco you can  be able to customize the cigar so that  is a good smoke  according to taste, but it is not  an easy task to please everyone !

In which countries can buy your cigars ?

For now only in Mexico! We are in talks with some companies in the U.S. and Europe.
We were concentrated in the register of Artigas brand in the U.S., unfortunately last a multinational has boycotted alleging that Artigas is similar and  copy of Partagas ! ( See sheet and I would like to be published ‘cause I think aficionados should know).

How do you get to Mexico?

After more than 20 years I have been a lot of criticism , but traveling the world , I know that every country has its positives and negatives! Let’s say that as a lover of the sea in Cancun live in an earthly paradise with summer all year round and this makes up for everything.

Do you miss  Italy ?

Sure !

What do you miss about Italy?

The land and its perfumes, my province , my mother , friends and honest people , many ingredients for cooking , our unique treasures and cultural monuments and much more , unfortunately !

What do not you miss Italy !

The cold ! And … although I was a good skier , I feel absolutely the lack of snow ! I’m 20 years who do not live a winter and maybe I won’t live it more .

No doubt the ” politicians ” in this era everyone without distinction, and Italian when we believe all the bullshit and hypocrisy that tell us every day.

A word of advice to those who approach the world of cigar smoking as …

What can I say ! I started smoking for the sake of work , I can say with surprise and over the years I have appreciated more and more  this completely natural product. Every time a small work of art that must be smoked and tasted.

What do you think of women who smoke cigars ?

If you follow our facebook page we are among the first admirers , more and more  women enter the world of cigar smokers and are competent ! I would say ” Perfect Combination” !

Also I want to say that our is a women mainly company.

Amici aficionados sono lieto di presentarvi, Guido Carloni, proprietario della Artigas.

Ho avuto il piacere di conoscerlo a l’Avana, nell’ottobre del 2013.  Vi lascio alla lettura della sua intervista.

Quando hai cominciato la tua avventura Artigas?

Nel 2005 comprando le marche Artigas , Habana Gold e Lancelot ad una compagnia di Citta’ del Messico. Cosí insieme alla nostra marca Santa Cruz, abbiamo iniziato a fabbricare i nostri sigari e negli ultimi 4 anni ampliato notevolmente il vitolario, ricercando tabacco di qualita’ per tentare di alzare il livello e personalizzare i nostri sigari.

Cosa ti ha spinto nel mondo dei sigari?

Puro caso! In una fiera a Citta’ del Messico un Italiano importatore di sigari americani gli havatampa, me li offri’ per aprire il mercato a Cancún.

Scettico,ma ci provai e funziono’. Cosí si inizio’ la distribuzione di varie marche importate e Nazionali,incluso i Café Creme Wintermann Olandesi!

Quanti torcedores lavorano nella tua fabbrica?

La nostra e’ una piccola fabbrica e al massimo abbiamo in alta stagione una decína di torcedores.

Quanti sigari vengono prodotti al giorno?

Dipende dal tipo di sigaro,produciamo Premium con capa clara habana, con capa Madura e la nostra exclusiva línea Vintage madura(120/150 sigari ogni torcedor).

In Messico abbiamo un forte mercato di sigari e sigaretti di picadura sia al naturale che aromatizzati con piu’ di 20 aromi (180/200 sigari e 800 sigaretti ogni torcedore) .

Quali sono i formati piu’ venduti?

Naturalmente i formati piu’ famosi e conosciuti, come i robustos, churchills, coronas, belicosos e piramides!
Ma come dicevo i sigaretti si super vendono.

Il nostro mercato in Messico e’ prevalentemente turistico in particolare USA,Canada e Europa.

Il tuo formato preferito?

Con cosa abbini il sigaro?

Con un buon vino o magari quando lo trovo un nostro Marsala mi fanno apprezzare di piu’ la fumata.

In quale momento della giornata ti gusti un sigaro?

Non fumo ogni giorno, diciamo che nel fine settimana trovo i miei momenti di relax o quando si presenta l’occasione, magari in dolce compagnia e al tramonto nel mio balcone con una vista mozzafiato della laguna.

A volte devo fumare per tastare nuove vitole o nuove leghe.

Che caratteristiche hanno i tuoi sigari?

” aroma di pepe de la Cayenna,lieve profumo di te’ del Tibet e lasciano nel palato un sapore di ron delle Isole Vergini! ” ah!ah!

Semplicemente tabacco con i suoi diversi aromi,a secondo della sua provenienza e invecchiamento … ma sempre e solo Tabacco! Avendo alcune rollatrici cubane,usiamo la loro scuola e finiamo la testa del sigaro con la “perilla cubana”.

Secondo la provenienza e il tipo di tabacco si puo’ riuscire a personalizzare il sigaro affinche’ sia una fumata agradabile secondo i gusti,ma non e’ impresa facile accontentare tutti!

In quali nazioni si possono acquistare i tuoi sigari?

Per ora solamente in Messico! Siamo in trattativa con alcune compagnie in Usa e Europa.
Eravamo concentrati nel registro di marca Artigas in USA,purtroppo all’ultimo una multinazionale ci ha boicottato asserendo che Artigas e’ simile e copia di Partagas! (Vedi foglio e gradirei che sia pubblicato perche’ credo che gli aficionados devono sapere).

Come ti trovi in Messico?

Dopo piu’ di 20 anni ho molte critiche, pero’  viaggiando nel mondo so bene che ogni paese ha i suoi lati positivi e negativi!  Diciamo che come amante del mare a Cancun vivo in un paradiso terrestre con estate tutto l’anno e questo mi ripaga di tutto.

Ti manca l’ Italia?

Certo!

Cosa ti manca dell’Italia?

La terra e i suoi profumi, la mia provincia, mia madre,gli amici e le persone oneste,molti ingredienti per cucinare, i nostri unici tesori monumentali e culturali e molto altro purtroppo !

Cosa non ti manca dell’Italia!

Il freddo! … E anche se ero un buon sciatore, non sento assolutamente la mancanza della neve!

Sono 20 anni che non vivo un inverno e forse non lo vivro’ piu’. Senza dubbio i “politicanti” in questa epoca tutti e senza distinzione e noi Italiani quando crediamo a tutte le fesserie e ipocrisie che ci dicono ogni giorno.

Un consiglio a chi si avvicina al mondo del sigaro come fumatore …

Che dire! Ho iniziato a fumare per esigenze di lavoro, posso dire che con sorpresa e con gli anni ho apprezzato sempre di piu’ questo prodotto completamente naturale .

Ogni volta una piccola opera d’arte che va fumata e degustata.

Che ne pensi delle donne che fumano il sigaro?

Se seguite il nostro sito Facebook noi siamo tra i primi estimatori, sempre piu’ donne entrano nel mondo del sigaro e sono fumatrici competenti! Direi “Perfect Combination”!

Inoltre  tengo a dire che la nostra e’ una compagnia prevalentemente di donne.
