L’Avana è piena di posti che ne ricordano l’antico splendore, quando era conosciuta come la Parigi dei Caraibi.
Uno di questi è il Riviera Hotel, sito tra Paseo y Malecon, nella zona Vedado. Il Riviera è un grattacielo che si affaccia sull’oceano. Ha una piscina, famosa per il suo trampolino. Peccato che sia un edificio trascurato. Vide passare personaggi famosi.
In una delle sale, ora dismesse, si trovava il casinò. Questa sala fu studiata per avere un’acustica molto buona, al fine di organizzare concerti molto importanti. Concerti che temo siano stati molto pochi.
Di fianco a questa sala c’è La Casa del Tabaco, un negozio che vende sigari, caffè e rum. Di solito non è molto affollato in quanto risente della vicinanza della più famosa La Casa del Habano- Melia Cohiba-.
Proprio per questo può essere interessante per clienti che cercano scatole di sigari piuttosto rare.
Manager della Casa è Marisa, una donna molto professionale nonché esperta fumatrice di Habanos. E’ un piacere parlare con lei di sigari. Il suo modulo preferito è il double corona o prominente.
D’altronde quando si lavora dieci ore al giorno, un sigaro di dimensioni importanti aiuta a far passare il tempo. Come la capisco. Anch’io fumavo sigari grandi quando lavoravo a La Casa del Habano, se poi veniva un cliente con cui conversare sul mondo fumoso, il tempo volava.
La Casa del Tabaco del Riviera, oltre ad offrire una buona gamma della produzione di Habanos SA, ospita anche una delle torcedores più brave che io conosca: Juanita.
I sigari fatti da Juanita sono un spettacolo. Da spenti sono veramente belli da vedere. La capa si presenta liscia e tesa, come un vestito di alta sartoria si disegna sul corpo di una indossatrice.
Una volta acceso un sigaro di Juanita, saremo investiti da una piacevole sensazione di delicatezza. Questa caratteristica la ritroviamo anche nei moduli grandi. Juanita produce sigari di classe, di gran classe.
Se durante la nostra fumata a La Casa del Tabaco ci viene sete, possiamo andare al bar che si trova di fronte al negozio.
Da qui si potrà ammirare la vista sul Malecon e sull’oceano dalle ampie vetrate della lobby, mentre fumiamo il sigaro e beviamo un Havana Club.
Una sera dell’ottobre 2012 da quelle vetrate ammirai i confini dell’uragano, che solo in seguito seppi che aveva causato morte e distruzione nella città di Santiago de Cuba.
La Casa del Tabaco del Riviera vi aspetta, dite pure a Marisa e Juanita che vi ho mandato io. Di sicuro passerete due ore piacevoli.
