“La Casa del Habano-Hotel Nacional„

In Cuba, anything can happen, especially if you frequent the Hotel Nacional. It ‘ easy to meet actors and singers of international renown. All available to chat.

I was in Havana the week prior to the Festival del Habano 2014, and as I often do , I went to La Casa del Habano at the Hotel Nacional.

I know the cigar roller , Milagro , a very nice woman with whom I always pass pleasant hours , smoking one of his amazing cigars . She works cigars and I smoke them.

Every time a customer asks information about his work, which I fully endorse . Here I got to know many people who spin around the world of Cuban cigar.

On February 21, I was sitting in the chair at La Casa del Habano smoking a robusto of Milagro . This time the robusto wore a yellow anilla that bore the inscription La Casa del Habano Hotel Nacional.

I was smoking with taste when I heard a commotion behind me. Two men carrying a work in wood.
They rested gently on a table in front of me .

It was the humidor ” Mi Habana ” artist Alfredo Gómez Cervantes, executed on the design of Mrs. Maria del Carmen Palomo Valdivia.

Intrigued, I approached the subject of excellent workmanship and began to ask questions and take pictures.

So I came to know that it was a humidor built on purpose, in a single copy , to be auctioned on the evening of 25 February 2014, the XV Festival del Habano . The auction will be held in the Hotel Nacional ,  precisely in the Vedado room.

The humidor ” Mi Habana ” shows the main symbols of the Cuban capital such as the Morro Castle , the Paseo del Prado , the Hotel Nacional and the Giraldilla .

It can accommodate 198 cigars and is built with fine woods with sculptures made of ebony .

The humidor contains 50 Liberator , 100 Infante, 30 and 18 Gran Reserva Lusitania Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure .

The color of this humidor keeps the natural colors of the materials with which it was built.

Too bad I can not participate in the auction . By that time I was back in Italy . Be the first person to see it fills me with joy . It will be a source of pride that I carry below for quite some time.

On the other hand when I go to Cuba , I always comes back with a bag full of stories and anecdotes to tell, maybe smoking a cigar with friends smoking.

The robusto of Milagro was finished. I took leave of her and gave  one last look at the humidor , devoting a thought to the lucky winner of the auction. I just hope he can appreciate the new object that will embellish his home.

A Cuba tutto può succedere, soprattutto se frequenti l’Hotel Nacional. E’ facile incontrare attori e cantanti di fama internazionale.  Tutti disponibili a scambiare quattro chiacchiere.

Mi trovavo a l’Avana la settimana  antecedente al Festival del Habano 2014 e come faccio spesso mi recai a La Casa del Habano del Hotel Nacional. Qui conosco la torcedora, Milagro, una donna molto simpatica con la quale passo sempre delle piacevoli ore, fumando uno dei suoi magnifici sigari. Lei lavora i sigari ed io li fumo.

Ogni tanto un cliente le chiede informazioni in merito al suo lavoro, che io avallo completamente. Qui ho avuto modo di conoscere molte persone che satellitano intorno al mondo del sigaro cubano.

Il 21 febbraio ero seduto sulla poltrona de La Casa del Habano fumando un robusto di Milagro. Questa volta il robusto indossava una anilla gialla che portava la scritta La Casa del Habano Hotel Nacional.

Stavo fumando con gusto quando sentii un trambusto alle mie spalle. Due uomini portavano un’opera in legno.

La posarono con delicatezza su un tavolino di fronte a me. Era lo humidor “Mi Habana” dell’artista Alfredo Gòmez Cervantes, eseguito su disegno della signora Maria del Carmen Palomo Valdivia.

Incuriosito mi avvicinai all’oggetto di ottima fattura e cominciai a chiedere informazioni e a scattare delle foto.

Cosi venni a sapere che era uno humidor costruito apposta, in un unico esemplare, per essere messo all’asta nella serata del 25 febbraio 2014, per il XV Festival del Habano. L’asta si sarebbe tenuta nel Hotel Nacional, precisamente nel salone Vedado.

Lo humidor “Mi Habana” rappresenta i principali simboli della capitale cubana quali il Castello del Morro, il Paseo del Prado, l’hotel Nacional e la Giraldilla.

Può ospitare 198 sigari ed è costruito con legni pregiati con sculture  fatte in ebano.

Lo humidor contiene: 50 Libertador, 100 Infante, 30 Lusitania Reserva e 18 Gran Epicure di Hoyo de Monterrey.

Il colore di questo humidor mantiene i colori naturali dei materiali col quale è stato costruito.

Peccato non poter partecipare all’asta. Per quella data  ero tornato in Italia. Essere stata la prima persona ad averlo visto mi riempie di gioia. Sarà un vanto che mi porterò appresso per parecchio tempo.

D’altronde quando si va a Cuba, si torna sempre con un bagaglio pieno di storie ed aneddoti da raccontare, magari fumando un sigaro con altri amici fumatori.

Il robusto di Milagro era finito. Mi congedai da lei e diedi un’ultima occhiata allo humidor, dedicando un pensiero al fortunato vincitore che se lo sarà portato a casa. Spero solo sappia apprezzare il nuovo oggetto che impreziosirà la sua abitazione.
