For MB Cigars Ladies, I meet Maritza Montoya. She is originally from El Salvador but she has lived in the United State since she was a teenager. She currently lives in North Carolina where she works as a Spanish languages instructor for the military. Teaching is truly her passion, but so is enjoying a great cigar.

1)   When did you start to smoke cigars?

My first cigar experience was many years ago.

I was in my early twenties. I lived near a cigar bar and whenever I walked by I was always curious about it.

I was always attracted to the appearance of the place., the fine leather and the aromas.

2)   Why did you start to smoke cigars?

Cigars to me always had a certain appeal.

I think it came from watching classic movies where these very attractive and interesting men where always smoking.

I would never see many women doing it and I think that was even more appealing to me.

I guess I wanted to be one of the few and from the first time, I was hooked.

3)   How many cigars do you smoke during the day?

As much as I would like to smoke everyday, I actually only smoke on the weekends. I am more of a social smoker only because I love small gathering and great conversation. Though, I still average to smoke 4 to 5 cigars per weekend.

4)   Which is the best place you have smoked a cigar?

The best place in which I have smoked a cigars has been the Dominican Republic. I have made two trips to D.R. and spent two weeks on each of my trips.

There was not one day where I didn’t enjoy a great cigars and Rum while sitting by the beautiful beaches of Punta Cana.

5)   What do you use to cut the cigars?

I prefer to use a guillotine cutter must of the time. Though, I carry a punch with me on my key chain for emergency use only. There is nothing worse than not being able to smoke a cigar whenever the desire strikes.

6)   How do you feel when you are smoking?

Every time I light up a nice cigar, I immediately feel removed from all those distractions that take over the day. My mind always wonders off to a better place.

As I draw from my cigar I become extremely aware of my senses. I absolutely love the taste of the cigar lingering in my mouth. The taste of a cigar accompanied with a shot of bourbon is the ultimate.

I love the feeling of going to my local cigar bar. It’s called Anstead’s Tobacco Company. It’s my home away from home. I love the atmosphere and the friends I have made.

7)   When do you light up your first cigar?

I wish I could say I light up a cigar every day. However, most of my smoking takes place at night when I get together with my friends.

8)   What is the cigar for you?

This is a tough question to answer. It really depends in my mood. I never know what I am going to feel like smoking and I am always open for suggestions, which is a great way to exposing myself to new blends.

I have become a huge fan of Nicaraguan cigars such as Tatuaje ,10 anniversary to be exact. Most recently I had the pleasure to smoke a Hermosa cigar that was out of this world.

Thank you very much Maritza, it was a great pleasure read your words.
