“Vitola: Julieta n.2„

202/267

I have often written that I do not like the fashions, especially in the world of Habanos. I do not like the new formats of smoking cigars, those excessively “fat.” I like instead of the traditional formats, piramides, coronas gorda, coronas, campanas, prominentes, Marevas, Laguito 1.

Today I want to write a historical format. Suffice it to say that bears the name of a prominent politician of international standing. I am referring to Julieta No.2, also known as Churchill.

Julieta n.2 mm.178 is long and has a width of 18 mm, 65, namely has a cepo 47. In principle, this format was produced in the factory Romeo Y Julieta, only after other brands it worked out.

I find this very elegant vitola. Never trivial. A cigar of other times. Maybe because I’m a romantic, but I love having in hand a  Julieta No.2. It gives me that extra touch of class that does not clash. Perfect when you do not have the time to smoke a prominent, while remaining a smoke important, not short.

I still remember the conversation I had with the Professor, a customer / friend, with whom I shared afternoons to smoke when I was selling Cuban cigars. Those chats on puros I have not had the good fortune to share them. I have not found anyone at its height.

The Professor is a well-known journalist who now no longer exercises. A man of the world. A person that the world has traveled far and wide. A man who smoked Cuban cigars in Italy when we did not know even the aroma. If I am not mistaken, was the first Italian  journalist to interview El Comandante Che Guevara few days after his arrival in Havana.

The professor came around four o’clock pm. He asked me advice on which cigar smoking. And I was happy to oblige. Once he choose his cigar, we took off together talking about the pure who had turned on. Always a classic vitola. I would never have dared to suggest a Montecristo Edmundo or a Petit Robusto Hoyo de Monterrey. The smallest cigar, I still remember, it was a Montecristo No.2. But it was the vitola choice when he was little time available, otherwise we went on a Lusitanias de Partagas or Double Coronas of Hoyo de Monterrey. Otherwise you opted for a Romeo Y Julieta Churchills or Sir Winston H.Upmann. The last was one of his favorites. It will have hundreds smoked and he never found one that pulled or had some problem. They were always well executed.

I imagine his face when he will have seen for the first time the Cohiba Behike … do not think Professor, light up a Winston!
The talks with the Professor opened my eyes and mind. I owe him now if smoke vitolas classic. And I do not care if someone is crazy for extra large cigars.

Choosing a Julieta No.2 is never wrong. I have yet to find a brand that disappoint me in this format. They are all at the highest levels. A Bolivar Coronas Gigantes, a Cohiba Esplendido, a Tainos de La Gloria Cubana, a Imperiales Quai d’Orsay. But how do you choose!

But if I have to, I prefer a Sir Winston H.Upmann.  Like the Professor. A great cigar. Someone will notice that it is a cigar by the high price, when compared with those of other brands, but has a higher gear. And you can tell even looking at him rest in its beautiful wooden box painted. Then the name already, Sir Winston, makes you realize that is a step above the rest.

I hope that someone, after reading these few lines, he  will choose a Romeo y Julieta Churchills instead of Cohiba Behike 56. Certainly will not be “trendy”, but will smoke a piece of Cuban history. Not bad, I guess.

Following, Italian version.
